In 1929 Barcelona hosted the Universal Exhibition and the government commissioned German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe to create the flag representing Germany on Montjuic during the exhibition and its furniture.

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe takes inspirations form old models of folding chairs, where his frame is made of very fluid forms of chromed metal and the top is made of individual leather cushions.
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (March 27, 1886 August 17, 1969) was born in Aachen in western Germany and later moved to Berlin where he became part of the avant-garde Bauhaus design school and served as the director of architecture from 1930 to 1933.

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe adopting and developing their application of simple geometric forms in the design of useful objects. One of result is the Barcelona chair.
